With the summer transfer window set to officially open on 1 July, let’s review the latest English Premier League transfer news and rumours surrounding England’s biggest football clubs.
Arsenal
France international Yann M’Vila has revealed that he ‘likes’ Arsenal and the Premier League, fueling speculation that the Rennes midfielder will join the Gunners in the summer transfer window.
“I have heard Arsenal are interested in me,” M’Vila said. “I like Arsenal and I like the Premier League.
“I don’t know what is happening with the clubs, but yes, I would be interested in the Premier League and Arsenal.”
The 21-year-old started two games for France at Euro 2012, including the quarter-final match against reigning European champions Spain.
M’Vila tallied two goals and three assists in 61 appearances for club and country in 2011-12.
Chelsea FC
According to the Daily Star, the Blues are chasing the signature of 22-year-old Málaga CF talisman Salomón Rondón.
The Venezuelan bagged 11 goals and four assists in 37 games for Los Boquerones in 2011-12, leading the club to a fourth place finish in La Liga.
Despite Rondón’s pedestrian goal-scoring record, Málaga are seeking at least £20 million for their prized asset.
£20 million seems rather pricey, but then again, Liverpool paid about the same to land Stewart Downing from Aston Villa.
Downing tallied zero goals and zero assists in 36 league games for Liverpool last season. That’s not good. In fact, I could have done that for £0.
Now then, Liverpool are also keen on the aforementioned Rondón, with Spurs also interested in the Venezuelan.
Manchester City
City transfer target Daniele De Rossi recently uncovered his love for English football, according to the Manchester Evening News.
“I have received many offers from English football. And I must say that I feel attraction for it,” revealed De Rossi.
“I like English football very much. I think now it’s probably more interesting than Italian football.
“There are lots of outstanding and talented players, as is the case for Spain as well.”
The longtime Roma midfielder became the hightest paid footballer in Italy’s Serie A back in February 2012 after he inked a new five-year deal with i Giallorossi.
Manchester United
As indicated by Metro, 2011-12 English Premier League runners-up Manchester United are pondering a move for PSV Eindhoven and Holland full-back Jetro Willems after keeping tabs on him at Euro 2012.
As an 18-year-old, Willems started all three group stage matches for Holland at Euro 2012. He made 15 league appearances for PSV last season, scoring one goal.
With Patrice Evra, 31, not getting any younger, United may just cough up £10 million for the Dutch teenager.
