Roma coach Luis Enrique is confident Daniele De Rossi will stay at the club despite being linked with a move away from Stadio Olimpico.

The Italy midfielder is reportedly a transfer target for English Premier League leaders Manchester City.

But Enrique, whose side host Chievo in Serie A on Sunday, believes De Rossi wants to remain at Roma and is confident he will do so.

“Well, we haven’t talked about this (De Rossi leaving Roma). As far as I’m concerned, I’m sure Daniele De Rossi will remain at Roma, but this is just my opinion, and everything is up to the club and the player,” he said on Saturday.

“They’re talking about this and I’m not worried about anything. I believe he will remain in Roma, since this is what he wants.”

Roma sit seventh after a three-match unbeaten run, and need a win against Chievo to maintain touch with the top five.

Enrique said he expected his team to show enthusiasm and the desire to build a winning run.

“This match gives us an incentive for us to strengthen what we have done in the last matches. I think this will represent a good incentive for the guys,” he said.

“I don’t know if we’ll win and I don’t know what will be happen, but I want to see in each player the willingness to play as a whole team which attacks and defends. I want to see a team which wants to try to score goals and has ambitions.”

Enrique added his players were beginning to perform on the training track, something he felt they had not been doing earlier in the season.

“If you train at 100 percent, you can influence the game. If the players perform well in training sessions and the team play as they’re doing now, we’re confident to be able to play against any team showing the best attitude and condition,” the Spaniard said.

“The situation at the club has improved over the last couple of months and I believe we’re on the right path.”
