Enrique confirmed as Roma boss

Luis Enrique has been officially announced as the new manager of Serie A giants Roma.

The Spaniard has signed a two-year deal with the club and replaces caretaker Vincenzo Montella, who deputised after Claudio Ranieri’s resignation in February.

The club announced that issues beyond their control have delayed the announcement, but have finally made the appointment official.

They revealed in a statement that Enrique would receive a salary of just under three million pounds during his first season, with the potential of further bonuses.

The appointment is a gamble as the 41-year-old has never managed a first-team before, with his only managerial experience coming at Barcelona where he spent two years in charge of the B team, before resigning in March.

But he has no shortage of playing experience, having represented Real Madrid and Barcelona with great distinction while he also represented his country on 62 occasions.
