Roma coach Luis Enrique conceded his side were lucky to run out 3-0 winners against Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico in the Coppa Italia.
After a goalless first half, Roma came out strongly and secured the victory following two goals from Erik Lamela and one from Fabio Borini in little over 20 minutes.
“We were lucky, because Fiorentina did not allow us to play like we usually do and they made some very dangerous counter-attacks,” Luis Enrique told Rai.
“I am satisfied with our defensive performance, this was the key to this match. They could have scored in the first half, but we did well and we managed to stop them.”
“In the second half, we grew in the game and we scored. Today we had the chance to show that our squad does not lack depth and is valid.”
“I am happy to have given this joy to the fans.”
“Lamela put in a positive performance, but let’s not forget Francesco Totti’s assists. Borini also had a strong impact on the game.”
The Italian capital club, who lie in seventh position on the Serie A table, will visit Catania on Saturday.
