Defending Eredivise champions Ajax underlined their title credentials in a dominant 6-1 victory over NEC on Sunday.
Ajax went ahead in the 13th minute when Jody Lukoki netted from a Lasse Schone assist.
Goals from Christian Eriksen and Tobias Sana had the visitors 3-0 up inside the opening 20 minutes and a Theo Janssen strike extended the advantage before the interval.
Siem de Jong made it 5-0 just after half-time before Bram Nuytinck’s strike in the 63rd minute offered some respite for the hosts.
But Sana completed his brace in the 83rd minute to round off an impressive win for Frank de Boer’s side, who recorded their first win of the campaign after an opening-day draw.
Title hopefuls AZ Alkmaar were also convincing winners, as two first-half goals set up a 3-1 home victory against Heracles.
US international Jozy Altidore struck first at AFAS Stadion, scoring in the 16th minute after a Roy Beerens assist.
Belgian midfielder Maarten Martens doubled his side’s tally 10 minutes later.
Heracles set up a nervy finish when Samuel Armenteros halved the deficit in the 87th minute, but Altidore put the result beyond doubt in injury time.
Groningen were jeered by their own fans after they were held to a 1-1 draw to newly promoted Willem II.
The hosts opened the scoring at the Euroborg on 26 minutes when Mitchell Schet’s knock-down was headed in at the far post by Uruguayan David Texeira.
Groningen were slow to start after the half-time break though, and were caught out after a poor clearance allowed Marc Hoocher to fire a low shot past goalkeeper Luciano.
The result sees Robert Maaskant’s side earn their first point of the season after a heavy opening-day defeat to Twente, while Willem have started their campaign with a pair of draws.
Den Haag have also shared the spoils from their opening two matches following a 2-2 draw at home to RKC Waalwijk.
Teddy Chevalier opened the scoring for the visitors on 14 minutes through Robert Braber, but Den Haag levelled just four minutes later after a Vito Wormgoor strike.
Chevalier scored what appeared to be a match-winner on 89 minutes, but Danny Holla salvaged a point for the hosts in the second minute of injury time.
