ADO Den Haag were forced to be content with a 3-3 draw at home to Roda JC on Friday, despite leading on three occasions.

Thrilling the result may have been, but it does little for either club’s Eredivisie ambitions. Both sides lie mid-table and failed to make any considerable ground to the Europa League playoff spots with the draw.

The home side took the lead just three minutes into the match, with on-loan Rennes striker John Verhoek making the breakthrough.

ADO Den Haag broke quickly and had little trouble finding space going forward, allowing Wesley Verhoek to cross and present his brother with a simple finish.

Roda were level five minutes later, however, when a chipped ball over the ADO Den Haag defence found captain Mads Junker, who finished well past goalkeeper Gino Coutinho.

Striker Charlton Vicento, 21, put the hosts back in front on 24 minutes, stealing in front of marker Robbie Wielart to poke home Tjarron Chery’s cross at the near post and allowing his side to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

Just three minutes after the restart, however, the visitors were level once more, when Sanharib Malki found the back of the net.

It again took ADO Den Haag 10 minutes to restore their advantage, after Vicento timed his run perfectly to slot past Roda goalkeeper Pawel Kieszek – who had ill-advisedly rushed off his line – to score his fourth goal in five league games.

There was to be one more twist in the tale, however, when Syria international striker Malki claimed his brace from close range, converting Junker’s ball across the face of goal.
