AZ Alkmaar beat NEC Nijmegen 1-0 to defend their Eredivisie lead, while Ajax beat ADO Den Haag 3-0 to remain close to the top.
The only goal of the match between AZ and NEC, played at DSB Stadium, was scored by Pelle on 75 minutes. It was enough for the home side to maintain their three-point advantage over Ajax.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who moves to Real Madrid in January, didn’t play in this game but did watch as his successor Dario Cvitanich scored no less than three goals to brush aside ADO Den Haag at the Amsterdam Arena.
The Argentinian, who joined the Dutch side from CA Banfield earlier this year, first scored in the 7th minute, then in the 18th and added a third in the 57th.
Halfway through the season, AZ are three points ahead of Ajax and seven points ahead of third-placed Twente. PSV Eindhoven trail by 11 points.
