Eredivisie: Cambuur 0 Twente 1

Twente moved three points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table after a 1-0 triumph at Cambuur on Friday.

Luc Castaignos’ second-half strike earned Michel Jansen’s men their fifth victory from nine league matches to give them breathing space at the summit.

Twente entered the match on the back of a 5-0 thrashing of Groningen in their last fixture and they kept up their form with another important win.

Castaignos had not scored for Twente since netting a double on August 18, but was on hand to convert Quincy Promes’ assist in the 49th minute.

Cambuur chased the game but an array of attacking substitutions failed to pay dividends as Twente held on for victory.

The hosts have now scored just three goals in their last six Eredivisie matches and sit 12th in the table.
