De Graafschap picked up a vital point in a 1-1 draw with Groningen as they look to avoid automatic relegation from the Eredivisie.

Anco Jansen scored with 21 minutes remaining at the Euroborg to ensure De Graafschap came away with a share of the spoils after Matias Jones had given the hosts the lead just past the half hour mark.

It was Groningen’s first point from their last five matches, and they are safe from relegation in 13th despite their poor recent form.

For De Graafschap, the draw moves them two points clear of bottom side Excelsior with two games left to play.

In the Eredivisie, the team who finishes last is automatically relegate to the Eerste Divisie, while the next two teams closest to the bottom compete in separate round-robin promotion playoffs against the top teams from the second division.
