An injury-time equaliser to Michael Uchebo stole VVV Venlo a point against Heracles in the Eredivisie on Friday.
Both sides were in the bottom six prior to kick-off but their league position had little say on the quality of the match, which finished 2-2.
VVV had lost 14 of their last 16 matches heading into the clash and were seen as rank outsiders, while Heracles hoped to extend their winning streak at home to three.
Brazilian midfielder Everton opened the scoring after 37 minutes for Heracles and five minutes later the Polman Stadion crowd was buzzing when Samuel Armenteros doubled the hosts’ lead.
Jan Van Dijk’s side, at 2-0 down, could have easily raised the white flag.
Instead, they battled on and snatched a goal when Ruud Boymans netted after good build-up work from Alex Nkume on 62 minutes.
The cards began to stack up, with four VVV players booked in a 20-minute spell.
But just when the match seemed a lost cause for the visitors, substitute Uchebo struck.
Heracles sit 13th and four points above the bottom three while VVV, in second last, are six points ahead of bottom-placed Willem II.
