Leaders PSV travel to fourth-place Heerenveen in this weekend’s stand-out Eredivisie fixture.

Sunday’s game at the Abe Lenstra Stadion presents a stern test for Phillip Cocu’s side, who lead the division by three points after six matches.

Heerenveen are unbeaten in five league matches since their surprise opening-game loss to Dordrecht and have won their last two home outings against Excelsior and Utrecht, although they were dumped out of the KNVB Beker in midweek at Roda.

Dwight Lodeweges’ side also have one of the Eredivisie’s most in-form strikers in Mark Uth, who has four league goals this season, including a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Utrecht at the end of August.

PSV will still be without their own eight-goal top-scorer, Memphis Depay, who remains sidelined with a groin injury he suffered in their only league defeat of the season, at PEC Zwolle earlier this month.

By the time PSV take to the field on Sunday, they will already know if their three-point advantage at the top of the table has been cut by either Ajax or Zwolle, who are level on 12 points.

Ajax face NAC Breda on Saturday, looking to claim a third successive league win following their blip at the end of August that saw them lose successive games to PSV and Groningen.

Champions Ajax were also buoyed recently by claiming a 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw at big-spending French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Zwolle have an excellent chance of victory on Saturday as they welcome bottom club Heracles Almelo, who have lost all six of their league matches this season, to the IJsseldelta Stadion.

Elsewhere on Saturday, two more struggling sides meet as 17th-place Vitesse make the trip to Dordrecht, who are one place above them.

In the two later games, ADO Den Haag host AZ Alkmaar, while Feyenoord look to claim their first league win since the opening round at Go Ahead Eagles, having lost 2-0 to the same opponents in KNVB Beker action on Wednesday.

In Sunday’s other matches, Cambuur will look to bounce back from their first Eredivisie defeat of the season with an away game at Excelsior, unbeaten Twente take on Utrecht and Groningen host Willem II.
