Eredivisie Preview: Title race hots up as Ajax travel to NAC Breda, PSV host Groningen

Ajax hold a four-point lead heading into this weekend’s Eredivisie fixtures with rivals PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord out to cut the gap.

Frank de Boer’s table toppers thumped NAC Breda 5-0 in the August home fixture, meaning he will be hoping for a repeat performance in the return at the Rat Verlegh Stadium on Saturday.

Heerenveen kick off the weekend at home to AZ Alkmaar on Friday, the visitors desperate to record a win that would move them out of relegation trouble.

PSV have a great chance to put the pressure on Ajax when they welcome mid-table FC Groningen to the Philips Stadion. The Eindhoven club’s leading scorer Dries Mertens will be looking to get amongst the goals again to boost their superior goal difference.

Also on Saturday, Den Haag host basement boys VVV Venlo with fellow strugglers Roda JC and RKC Waalwijk clashing in a crucial relegation battle.

Sunday sees FC Twente play NEC as they seek to gatecrash the top four in the last few games of the season.

FC Zwolle and FC Utrecht also take each other on Sunday, Feyenoord hosting mid-table Heracles in their all-important game.

Eredivisie top scorer Wilfried Bony will attempt to add to his goal tally this season when fourth-placed Vitesse Arnhem host bottom side Willem II in the final weekend fixture.
