Eredivisie: PSV 3 Roda JC 1

PSV Eindhoven tightened their grip on top of the Dutch Eredivisie table with a 3-1 win over Roda JC in Sunday’s only completed fixture.

Scheduled matches between VVV Venlo and FC Utrecht, NEC Nijmegen’s visit to AZ Alkmaar and Ajax’s clash with Feyenoord were postponed due to heavy snowfall in Holland.

Only Roda’s trip to Philips Stadion went ahead, though the visitors might have been wishing it had also been called off when Jeremain Lens put PSV ahead in just the fifth minute.

The Dutch international thumped the ball home from the goal-line after Marcelo nodded in his direction from a long-range free kick.

Roda attacker Anouar Hadouir equalised for the visitors in the 23rd minute, curling a free kick from outside the area into the top-left corner of the net.

But PSV came out firing after half-time, recapturing their lead through substitute Marcus Berg (53) and romping to victory on Balazs Dzsudzsak’s 68th-minute sealer.

Berg, who replaced Jonathan Reis in the 17th minute after the Brazilian striker suffered a knee injury, was the beneficiary of a threaded cross from the right and merely had to tap the ball past Roda goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton from close range.

Dzsudzsak capped the victory 15 minutes later, latching onto Ola Toivonen’s through ball at the edge of the box and blasting a left-footed strike underneath the crossbar.

The win, PSV’s 12th in 18 fixtures this term, leaves the club four points clear of Twente and Groningen on the table, though Twente have a game in hand.
