Twente defender Douglas Franco Teixeira is ready to move to a Premier League club in the summer, according to a source from the club.
The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the best defenders in Dutch Eredivisie and was linked with a number of Dutch giants including Ajax and PSV.
However, after revealing that he would never join another Dutch club, the Brazilian-born defender looks set to leave Netherlands at the end of the season.
According to Newcastle Chronicle, Newcastle and several other Premier League clubs are interested in the player’s services.
A source at Twente has revealed that Douglas is set for a Premier League move in the summer.
“It’s not a case of if Douglas wants to play in the Premier League – it’s simply when. He’s told the manager he wants to go,” unnamed source told Newcastle Chronicle.
“Steve McClaren also has a new defender lined up to replace him in the summer and appreciates that Douglas wants to move on.”
Douglas joined Twente from Brazilian minnows Joinville in 2007 and has since developed into a key performer for the Tukkers.
The towering defender has made 24 Eredivisie appearances this season, scoring three goals in the process.
