Vitesse beat Heracles 2-0 on Friday to claim their third Eredivisie win in succession and continue their push for a Europa League berth.
The hosts scores a goal in each half at the GelreDome to claim the three points over a Heracles side which finished the match with 10 men after goalkeeper Remko Pasveer was shown a straight red card after 42 minutes.
Vitesse were already a goal ahead when Pasveer was sent off after a brilliant piece of creativity from striker Wilfried Bony in the 23rd minute.
After collecting the ball in the box with his back to goal, Bony unleashed a cheeky back-heel which left Pasveer stranded and put the host 1-0 up.
It looked as though the Ivorian would soon double his tally after earning a penalty for being upended by Pasveer when clear on goal.
But after the ‘keeper received his marching orders, Bony watched as his penalty came back off the post, with Heracles making to the break only one goal down.
Vitesse would not be denied a second goal though, with Renato Ibarra finding the back of the net after 67 minutes to give the hosts a comfortable buffer.
Their 12th win of the season leaves Vitesse in seventh place on the Eredivisie table, 11 points clear of 11th placed Heracles, who have now lost four matches in succession.
