Ajax won their first match in three outings in the Eredivisie with a 3-0 away win over lowly NEC on Sunday.
The title holders were unable to impress in the opening 45 minutes and had to settle for a 0-0 score at half-time.
Ajax did manage to break the deadlock after the interval, though, as Miralem Sulejmani found the net from close range after some superb work from Vurnon Anita and Theo Janssen down the left in the 53rd minute.
NEC defender Kevin Conboy almost equalised with a good header, but he aimed just wide and Ajax doubled their lead shortly after. Again Sulejmani beat NEC goalkeeper Gabor Babos after a corner from Janssen on 78 minutes.
Promising youngster Davy Klaassen capped his Eredivisie debut by scoring a goal only seconds after coming off the bench. Christian Eriksen set up the attacking midfielder with a good through ball and Klaassen calmly placed the ball in the far corner.
Feyenoord moved fifth in the league with a 2-1 away win over 10-man RKC Waalwijk, courtesy of goals to John Guidetti and Jerson Cabral.
Excelsior were held to a 1-1 draw by ADO Den Haag, despite scoring in the opening minute through Leen van Steensel.
Vitesse held Twente to a 0-0 draw away at De Grolsch Veste – Twente’s fourth draw in their past five league affairs.
