Ajax made up ground on the Eredivisie leaders with a 4-0 win away to Roda on Saturday, as PSV and Twente drew 2-2.
Christian Eriksen’s sixth-minute strike saw Ajax hold a 1-0 half-time lead in the match at the Parkstad Limburg Stadion.
Theo Janssen and Jody Lukoki were on target early in the second half to extend the visitors’ advantage.
And Lorenzo Ebicilio netted with five minutes remaining to round off the scoring.
The win lifts Ajax up to fourth, now just two points behind PSV and Twente, who shared the points in their match at De Grolsch Veste.
Douglas Franco put hosts Twente in front 10 minutes in, but the lead lasted less than 60 seconds before Zakaria Labyad equalised for PSV.
Marcelo struck on 64 minutes to make it 2-1 to the visitors, but they were down to 10 men when Kevin Strootman was shown a red card in the 72nd minute.
It took just six minutes for the home side to make their man advantage count, as Leroy Fer levelled the scores at 2-2.
The draw leaves PSV second and Twente third; both side have 22 points, three behind league leaders AZ Alkmaar, who play visit Heracles on Sunday.
In other matches, Bas Dost’s hat-trick, which included two penalties, together with Luciano Narsingh’s goal, helped Heerenveen dispatch ADO Den Haag 4-0.
And Ard Van Peppen’s own-goal gifted Excelsior a 1-0 win at home to RKC Waalwijk, who ended the match with nine men after Guy Ramos and Henrico Drost both received red cards in the second half.
