Ajax gave up a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home to NAC in the Eredivisie, as PSV Eindhoven won to keep the pressure on leaders AZ Alkmaar.
Hosts Ajax led through Miralem Sulejmani’s goal in the 36th minute of Saturday’s match at the Amsterdam Arena.
They looked to have secured all three points when Derk Boerrigter struck to make it 2-0 with just six minutes remaining.
But NAC had other ideas.
Santi Kolk pulled one back less than 60 seconds after Boerrigter’s goal.
And then Robbert Schilder netted in the 89th minute to snatch a point for the visitors.
The draw leaves defending champions Ajax fourth, already 10 points back from leaders AZ, who have an opportunity to extend their lead when they visit Excelsior on Sunday.
Elsewhere, second-placed PSV closed to within three points of AZ courtesy of a 3-1 win away to De Graafschap.
The home side were on level terms going into the break, after Soufian El Hassnaoui scored to cancel out Tim Matavz’s opener for PSV.
But a second-half brace from Georgino Wijnaldum made sure of the win for Fred Rutten’s visitors.
Like Ajax, Twente also dropped points on Saturday, as they were held 1-1 away at Heracles.
Twente, who led going into the closing exchanges thanks to Peter Wisgerhof’s 50th-minute strike, were forced to settle for just a point after Lerin Duarte levelled for Heracles two minutes into injury time.
Heerenveen also came from behind to draw 1-1 at home, with a Gerald Sibon strike cancelling out Geoffrey Castillion’s opener for visitors RKC Waalwijk.
And goals from Sanharib Malki and Wiljan Pluim saw Roda JC run out 2-1 winners in their match at home to NEC.
Melvin Platje did get one back for the hosts with 14 minutes to, but they proved unable to force an equaliser in the time remaining.
