Ajax consolidated their position at the top of the Eredivisie table with a convincing 3-1 win over struggling De Graafschap.

Derk Boerrigter scored a brace and Christian Eriksen struck once to put the hosts 3-0 up after a dominant opening period before Michael de Leeuw’s pegged one back for De Graafschap on the stroke of half-time.

The result moves Aajx six points clear of AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord, who are tied for second place with 58 points.

Elsewhere, Frank Demouge scored a double as Utrecht came from two behind to convincingly beat VVV Venlo 4-2.

Demouge scored either side of half time and Alexander Gerndt added the fourth to compound VVV’s relegation woes.

Vitesse Arnhem were 1-0 winners at home to ADO Den Haag, Renato Ibarra scoring the lone goal on the hour mark.

Roda JC enhanced their hopes of a Europa League play-off spot with a 1-0 win away to Groningen.

Heracles shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at home to RKC Waalwijk with Jeff Stans equalising for the visitors.
