AZ Alkmaar remain six points clear at the top of the Eredivisie following a 3-0 win over ADO Den Haag, while Utrecht stunned Ajax 6-4.

Brett Holman, Adam Maher and Jozy Altidore were the men on target for Alkmaar in their comprehensive victory at the AFAS Stadion.

Also on Sunday, second-placed Twente kept pace with the league leaders courtesy of a 4-0 win at home to De Graafschap.

Centre-back Peter Wisgerhof opened the scoring for the home side five minutes before the break.

And second-half goals from Luuk de Jong, Ola John and Leroy Fer put the result beyond any doubt.

PSV Eindhoven stay level on points with Twente in third place after they beat Heracles 4-1 at home.

The visitors held an unlikely lead at half-time following Antoine Van der Linden’s 12th-minute strike at the Philips Stadion.

Sweden striker Ola Toivonen levelled for PSV four minutes into the second half, before a hat-trick from forward Jeremain Lens transformed the match in the home side’s favour.

The most unlikely result of the day came at Stadion Galgenwaard, where Utrecht twice came from behind before securing a 6-4 victory at home to Ajax.

Veteran striker Dmitri Bulykin opened the scoring for visitors Ajax eight minutes from kick-off.

Utrecht captain Nana Asare equalised on 16 minutes, and three minutes later Edouard Duplan struck to make it 2-1 to the home side.

Ajax pulled level through Andre Ooijer’s goal in the 32nd minute, and Russian Bulykin notched his second with five minutes remaining in the half to send Ajax in 3-2 ahead at the break.

Utrecht came out firing in the second half, and three goals in the space of five minutes turned the match on its head.

First, defender Daan Bovenberg scored to level at 3-3, before Jacob Mulenga’s goal and a second from Asare made it 5-3.

Denmark international Christian Eriksen pulled one back for Ajax with 18 minutes remaining.

But any hopes the visitors may have harboured of a late comeback were dashed when substitute Anouar Kali rammed home Utrecht’s sixth in the 95th minute.
