AZ Alkmaar increased their lead at the top of the Eredivisie to six points on Friday with a 2-0 home win over Utrecht.

After a goalless first half it was Swedish midfielder Rasmus Elm who gave the hosts the lead after 67 minutes with his eighth league goal of the season.

AZ had to wait until the 89th minute to make sure of the points, when Icelandic striker Johann Berg Gudmundsson received the ball from Roy Beerens before firing past Rob van Dijk in the Utrecht goal.

The win moved AZ six points clear of second-placed PSV Eindhoven, who are at home to Groningen on Saturday, and eight points ahead of third-placed Twente, who host Vitesse on Sunday.
