AZ Alkmaar increased their lead on top of the Eredivisie to four points on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Roda JC.
A Rasmus Elm strike six minutes after half-time was enough to secure victory for AZ, and Roda were left to finish the game with 10 men when Mark-Jan Fledderus received a second caution for a scuffle after the goal.
With the three teams below them in the league all drawing on Sunday, Gertjan Verbeek’s side move four points clear of PSV Eindhoven and Twente at the top of the league.
PSV took the lead after 18 minutes on their trip to Vitesse Arnhem, but the home side levelled just before the hour mark thanks to Bonno Wilfried to claim a point.
Ajax were a man down but still managed to fight back to claim a 1-1 draw with Feyenoord at Amsterdam Arena.
Teenager Stefan de Vrij put Feyenoord ahead after 61 minutes and they would have been confident of taking all three points when Ajax goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer was sent off for a foul on Guyon Fernandez.
But Jan Vertonghen headed home the leveller just three minutes after Vermeer was dismissed to salvage a draw for Frank de Boer’s men.
And South Korean striker Suk Hyun-jun came off the bench for FC Groningen to secure them a 1-1 draw at home against Twente, cancelling out Ola John’s opener for the visitors.
