Ajax maintained their one-point lead atop the Eredivisie with an entertaining 3-2 win over AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.

As the thrilling title race in the Netherlands continues, Ajax sit a point clear of PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, who were 2-1 winners over Utrecht.

At the AFAS Stadion in Alkmaar, a Siem de Jong brace led Ajax to their win against lowly AZ.

De Jong put Frank de Boer’s side ahead in the 20th minute, clinically finishing past Esteban Alvarado after a long pass from Toby Alderweireld.

The visitors were in charge of the encounter when they found a second moments later as Daley Blind fired an effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

AZ pulled a goal back two minutes into the second half through Markus Henriksen, who headed home after Ajax failed to clear a corner.

De Jong restored Ajax’s two-goal advantage with a deflected free-kick just before the hour mark and they held on despite Jozy Altidore’s late goal.

Feyenoord remain in the title race after their victory over Utrecht, which came thanks to Daryl Janmaat’s 61st-minute winner.

Cedric van der Gun had cancelled out Graziano Pelle’s opener before Janmaat struck the winner to keep top spot within touching distance for Feyenoord.

NAC Breda moved further clear of the relegation zone with a 4-0 thrashing of lowly Willem II.

Kees Luyckx, Mats Seuntjens, Elson Hooi and Danny Verbeek were on the scoresheet against a Willem side five points adrift of the relegation playoff spots.
