Heerenveen came from a goal down to beat Excelsior 4-2 in the Eredivisie on Saturday, as ADO Den Haag and Vitesse Arnhem also won.
Visitors Excelsior led from the fourth minute of the match at the Abe Lenstra Stadion thanks to a goal from Mitchell Te Vrede.
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw levelled for the hosts in the 20th minute, and Ramon Zomer made it 2-1 to Heerenveen on 37 minutes.
Bas Dost netted two minutes later to afford the home team a two-goal buffer.
Roland Alberg struck for bottom side Excelsior on 71 minutes to get the visitors back to within a goal.
But Dost then claimed his second and Heerenveen’s fourth to make the points safe with 13 minutes remaining.
The victory sees Heerenveen climb above reigning champions Ajax and into fourth place on the table.
They are now just one point behind leaders AZ Alkmaar, who visit De Graafschap on Sunday.
In other matches, Vitesse ran out 3-1 winners away to Groningen.
Goals from Marco van Ginkel and Jan-Arie Van Der Heijden either side of half-time saw the visitors go 2-0 ahead, before Groningen pulled one back through Dusan Tadic’s penalty.
The hosts proved unable to find an equaliser in the time remaining, and Mike Havenaar’s 92nd-minute strike helped Vitesse end the match on a high note.
ADO were also victorious on the road, beating Heracles Almelo 2-0 with Jens Toornstra and Charlton Vicento supplying the goals.
