A Mads Junker hat-trick fired Roda JC to a 5-2 win over VVV Venlo, while AZ Alkmaar beat ADO Den Haag 3-1 in Saturday’s Eredivisie action.
Roda made easy work of the Eredivisie strugglers, with three first-half goals helping them on their way to a cruisy victory.
Robbie Wielaert opened the scoring after five minutes, before Junker got his first of the night 10 minutes later.
The Danish international added a second after 30 minutes and sealed his hat-trick 11 minutes into the second half, marking his 18th goal for the club from 30 appearances this season.
Pa Kah scored his side’s fifth on the hour mark and an absolute rout looked on the cards, only for Michael Timisela and Michael Uchebo to score in the last 10 minutes and put some respectability on the scoreboard for the visitors.
The win lifts Roda into sixth place on the table, while VVV remain second-last and destined for a relegation playoff with the 16th-placed side at the end of the season.
AZ moved into fourth and above Den Haag with their 3-1 home victory at the AFAS Stadion.
Kolbeinn Sigthorsson’s goal on the stroke of half-time gave AZ life, and Australian international Brett Holman added a second on the hour-mark.
Timothy Derijck responded with a goal for the visitors seven minutes later, but the points were finally sealed four minutes from time when Nick van der Velden scored the winner.
In other matches, goals in the last 20 minutes to Wilfried Bony and Guram Kashia handed Vitesse Arnhem a 2-1 victory against Groningen, while Guyon Fernandez’s 47th minute winner saw Excelsior win 2-1 at NAC Breda.
