NEC Nijmegen have thrashed nine-man Zwolle 4-0 in the Eredivisie, with Ryan Koolwijk running amok for the victors.
Koolwijk scored two penalties and created NEC’s third goal on Saturday as Zwolle lost their goalkeeper Leon ter Wielen and central defender Joey van der Berg to red cards either side of half-time.
Van der Berg conceded the home side’s first penalty when he tripped NEC striker Melvin Platje in the 17th minute to earn a yellow card and Koolwijk stepped up to score from the spot.
In the 29th minute, ter Wielen gave Koolwijk another chance from the penalty spot, as Zwolle’s goalkeeper knocked over Soren Rieks in the box.
Ter Wielen was sent off and Koolwijk made no mistake from 11 metres, striking the ball past the home side’s replacement goalkeeper Danny Wintjens.
Zwolle’s game went from bad to worse in the 54th minute when Van der Berg was sent off after receiving his second yellow card and NEC made the most of their two-player advantage just a couple of minutes later when Koolwijk set up fellow midfielder Evander Sno to score.
Platje added NEC’s fourth goal in the 61st minute to complete a big victory, while Roda JC also notched a comprehensive win as they smashed Willem II 3-0.
Sanharib Malki scored Roda’s opening goal in the 39th minute, Krisztian Nemeth doubling the home side’s lead with 16 minutes left in the match.
With just nine minutes left on the clock, Adil Ramzi made it 3-0 for Roda as Willem II slumped to their second loss in a row.
In other Eredivisie results, RKC Waalwijk drew 1-1 with Heracles, while Alexander Gerndt scored a late equaliser for Utrecht to earn the same scoreline against NAC Breda.
