Willem II remain rooted to the foot of the Eredivisie table following a 1-0 defeat at home to De Graafschap on Wednesday.

Originally scheduled to take place on Friday, the first match between the two sides at Willem II Stadion in Tilberg was abandoned after 57 minutes due to torrential rain flooding the playing surface.

The teams managed to complete the remaining 33 minutes at the second attempt, and there was enough time for the visitors to grab all three points, with Sjoerd Overgoor netting the winner in the 81st minute of the match, 24 minutes in on the night.

On-loan Blackburn man Maceo Rigters mustered the only chance of note for the hapless hosts, with his tame effort easily parried by Boy Waterman in the De Graafschap goal.

Defeat leaves Willem II bottom of the league with just two points and without a win from 15 matches this season.

De Graafschap climb to 12th in the table, six points clear of Feyenoord in the last relegation place.

In Wednesday’s other fixture, Roda JC jumped one place to sixth following a 1-1 draw at home to Utrecht.

Former AZ Alkmaar man Ruud Vormer opened the scoring for the hosts 25 minutes in at the Parkstad Limburg Stadion and Roda JC held the lead going into half-time.

Utrecht had Frenchman Edouard Duplan, a summer signing from Sparta Rotterdam, to thank for gaining a share of the spoils.

Duplan struck in the 62nd minute to make the score 1-1 and secure a valuable away point for Ton du Chatinier’s side.
