NAC Breda claimed a vital 4-1 victory over fellow strugglers VVV Venlo, while ADO Den Haag easily accounted for Willem II on Saturday.
NAC, who parted company with manager John Karelse midweek after three consecutive Eredivisie defeats, put basement side VVV to the sword, netting all four goals during the opening half.
An eighth-minute strike from Kees Luyckx set the tone for NAC as Elson Hooi doubled the visitor’s advantage after 28 minutes.
Uche Nwofor pulled a goal back for VVV just three minutes later but it proved to be the hosts only highlight of the match.
Danny Verbeek restored NAC’s two-goal lead with his first goal of the campaign on 39 minutes before Anthon Lurling scored on the stroke of half-time to complete the rout.
The win moves NAC to within a point of safety, while VVV are still searching for their first win of the season.
ADO Den Haag bounced back from their loss at the hands of Utrecht with a 2-0 win against lowly Willem II at the Kyocera Stadion.
The match was a tight affair up until the hour-mark when Willem II defender Jordens Peters was shown red for a tackle inside the penalty area.
Danny Holla stepped up and converted the resulting spot-kick for his sixth goal of the season before Mike van Duinen secured maximum points for the hosts two minutes from time.
In Saturday’s other result, NEC and Roda JC played out a goalless stalemate.
