PSV Eindhoven missed a golden chance to move to fourth in the Eredivisie on Sunday when they were held to a 3-3 draw at struggling VVV Venlo.

PSV looked to be cruising to a regulation victory at half-time, with goals to Ola Toivonen and Dries Mertens seeing them 2-0 up at the interval.

But VVV hit back hard after the break, with quick goals from Ferry de Regt, Nwofor Uche and Maya Yoshida seeing them in front nine minutes into the second half.

But there was one more twist in the tale, and defender Wilfred Bouma sealed a point for Eindhoven with a 76th-minute strike.

Elsewhere on Sunday, FC Groningen’s difficult start to the new season continued when they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Heerenveen.

The hosts took the lead in first-half stoppage time thanks to a Ben Dost header, and they made sure of the points with second-half goals from Oussama Assaidi and Filip Djuricic.

Feyenoord remain unbeaten after their 3-1 win away over battling NAC Breda.

The hosts took an early lead through Robbert Schilder, but Otman Bakkal fired Feyenoord level after 37 minutes.

The match remained evenly poised until the hour mark, when midfielder Karim El Ahmadi put Feyenoord in front, and an 87th-minute penalty from Swedish striker John Guidetti made sure of all three points for Ronald Koeman’s side.
