Eredivisie wrap: PSV rout Roda, Twente hold Ajax

PSV Eindhoven romped to a 7-1 win over Roda JC in the Eredivisie on Saturday, while FC Twente drew with Ajax.

Belgium international Dries Mertens netted four times for PSV, while Ola Toivonen, Kevin Strootman and Tim Matavz were also on the scoresheet in the huge win at the Philips Stadion.

The 21-time Dutch champions struck four times in the opening 35 minutes – twice thanks to Mertens.

Syrian striker Sanharib Malki pulled one back for the visitors in the 56th minute, before PSV continued on their roll with Mertens finishing the rout from the penalty spot.

Meanwhile, Luuk de Jong struck a late equaliser to help Twente keep top spot with a 1-1 draw at Ajax.

Miralem Sulejmani had given Ajax the lead on 10 minutes in Amsterdam and they looked headed for first place before de Jong’s header.

In other games, Kees Luijckx hit a stoppage time winner as NAC Breda recorded a 1-0 win over Utrecht.

It took until the first minute of additional time for the hosts to collect three points, having played more than half the encounter with an extra man after Utrecht’s Michael Zullo had been given his marching orders just before the interval.

John Verhoek and Gabor Horvath scored in the first half to help ADO Den Haag out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over VVV Venlo.

Swede Samuel Armenteros cancelled out Oussama Assaidi’s strike to secure a point for Heracles with a 1-1 draw against Heerenveen.
