PSV moved back to the top of the Eredivisie table with a 6-1 thumping of NAC Breda in the Eredivisie on Saturday.
The away win – set up by four first-half goals – helped Dick Advocaat’s side climb ahead of FC Twente on the standings in the last match before the winter break.
More than 18,000 fans piled into the Rat Verlegh Stadion in Breda for the contest but the hosts – who were winless in seven prior to the match – made a sloppy start.
Jeremain Lens scored twice in the first 17 minutes for PSV, with his second being a rebound from a penalty he failed to score from.
NAC were given hope when Jordy Bujis pulled a goal back but strikes from Georginio Wijnaldum and Mathias Jorgensen before the break effectively sealed the result.
Luciano Narsingh and Jurgen Locadia added further polish to the scoreline in the second half as PSV extended their unbeaten run to five matches.
Vitesse Arnhem missed a chance to go third on the table after they lost 2-1 at Heerenveen.
Serbian Filip Djuricic gave Heerenveen the lead after 30 minutes but Guram Kashia’s strike six minutes before half-time looked like it might be the spark that Vitesse needed.
Heerenveen had other ideas though and claimed the all-important second goal through Icelandic forward Alfredh Finnbogason just after half-time.
Other results saw ADO Den Haag beat NEC Nijmegen 2-0 thanks to a double from Jens Toornstra while Heracles and PEC Zwolle drew 1-1.
