Eredivisie strugglers Excelsior managed their first victory in six matches on Saturday as they beat Roda JC 2-1, while RKC Waalwijk also won.

Hosts Excelsior led from the fifth minute of the match at the Stadion Woudestein courtesy of a goal from Rangelo Janga.

They had to wait until two minutes into injury time to make sure of all three points, when Jagos Vukovic’s own-goal made it 2-0.

There was still time for Sanharib Malki to get one back for the visitors, but his 95th-minute strike was merely a consolation for Roda.

The win lifts Excelsior off the foot of the table at the expense of De Graafschap, but John Lammers’ side remain nine points adrift of safety.

De Graafschap slumped to last place after they went down 1-0 at RKC, with Krisztian Nemeth bagging the winner for the home side in the 78th minute at the Mandemakers Stadion.

Finally, NEC Nijmegen won 2-0 away to VVV Venlo, thanks to goals from Leroy George and Lasse Schoene in the first and second half respectively.

Defeat leaves VVV third bottom, but seven points clear of Excelsior.
