Excelsior plummeted further towards relegation from the Eredivisie after they were hammered 7-0 by Roda JC on Saturday.

The Rotterdam club have won just once in 17 matches this season, and look destined for a return to the Eerste Divisie after they were torn apart at the Parkstad Limburg Stadion.

Serbian defender Jagos Vukovic began the rout when he scored after just five minutes, and Davy de Beule and Ruud Vormerboth netted before the interval to give the hosts a comfortable buffer at the break.

It seemed Roda were content to sit on their lead, until the introduction of Cameroonian Arnaud Sutchuin Djoum on 70 minutes sparked a devastating four-goal barrage.

The midfielder scored a brace in just five minutes, netting either side of a goal from Mitchell Donald, before another substitute, Mikolaj Lebedynski, grabbed a seventh for Roda two minutes from time.

Roda jump to eighth with the win, while Excelsior remain rooted to the foot of the table two points behind fellow strugglers VVV Venlo, who lost 2-0 away to NEC Nijmegen.

John Goossens netted on 25 minutes for NEC, but the hosts received a blow when Bram Nuytinck was shown a straight red card just after half-time.

Losing a man did not stop NEC though, with Goossens grabbing a second 12 minutes before the final whistle to compete their victory.

Elsewhere, a late goal from Guram Kashia helped Vitesse Arnhem extend their winning run to four games with a 1-0 win away at Heracles.

And Utrecht are now without a win in five matches after they went down 1-0 at Groningen.
