Eredivisie champions FC Twente drew level on points with league leaders PSV Eindhoven after their 4-2 away win over NEC Nijmegen on Saturday.

Twente had a brace each from Bryan Ruiz and Marc Janko to thank for the win, while Bas Sibum and Bjorn Vleminckx scored the goals for NEC.

Twente remain second in the Eredivisie standings on goal difference from PSV with both sides on 34 points, while NEC sit 12th.

In other games, FC Groningen missed out on a golden chance to close the gap on Twente and PSV when they lost 1-0 at home to Roda JC.

Groningen remain in third place on 30 points after the loss, which came courtesy of a goal to Arnaud Sutchuin-Djoum five minutes from half-time.

AZ Alkmaar leapfrogged Ajax into fourth place in the league table after their 2-2 draw with Heerenveen, who remain eighth.

But it was not an easy day at the office for AZ, who needed a 90th-minute equaliser to earn a share of the spoils after Mika Vayrynen and Daryl Janmaat had cancelled out Pontus Wernbloom’s opener.

And Excelsior moved a point further clear of the relegation zone with a 1-1 away draw with bottom side Willem.

Kaj Ramsteijn put the home side ahead six minutes into the second half, but Yevgeni Levchenko scored on 88 minutes to yet again break the hearts of Willem supporters, who are yet to see their side win this season.

The draw moved Excelsior to 15 points, two points clear of 16th-placed Feyenoord who are in the relegation zone, while Willem moved their season tally to just three points.
