Ajax came from behind to win 3-2 at Heracles, which saw them move to the top of the Eredivisie after Twente lost on Saturday.

Willy Overtoom scored after 31 minutes for Heracles, but an equaliser in the second minute of first half stoppage time from Siem de Jong saw the two sides enter half-time on level terms.

De Jong scored his second on 64 minutes before Serbian Miralem Sulejmani wrapped up the result with nine minutes to play.

There was still some time for Glynor Plet to pull a goal back for the hosts, while Ajax substitute Lorenzo Ebicilio was sent off in the dying stages.

That result, coupled with Twente’s 2-1 defeat at Roda JC, saw Ajax move to the summit of Dutch football.

Austrian Marc Janko put visitors in front after 35 minutes, but Ruud Vormer equalised within 60 seconds for Roda JC, before Mitchell Donald hit the winner just two minutes into the second half.

In other results, Per Wernbloom bagged a double as AZ Alkmaar scored four goals in the first half in their 4-0 win over Vitesse Arnhem, Ricky ten Voorde’s first-half goal gave RKC Waalwijk a 1-0 away win at ADO Den Haag while De Graafschap won by the same scoreline, defeating NEC thanks to Soufian El Hassnaoui’s goal.
