FC Twente moved to the top of the Eredivisie with a 4-1 win over VVV Venlo, while Utrecht came from behind to win 3-1 on Saturday.
More than 25,000 people were in attendance at the De Grolsch Veste in Enschede as Twente continued their perfect start to the season with another impressive win.
Costa Rican Bryan Ruiz opened the scoring after two minutes for Twente, although Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa managed an equaliser for VVV on 26 minutes.
Parity lasted just two minutes though as Luuk de Jong opened his account thanks to a Marc Janko assist, and the latter took his chance to get on the scoresheet as Twente led 3-1 after 31 minutes.
De Jong added another goal in the second half, again from a Janko assist, as Twente cruised to victory.
Danish striker Mads Junker’s 38th minute goal gave Roda JC a brief lead in Utrecht, but Australian Tommy Oar managed to level proceedings before half-time.
Goals in the second-half from Rodney Sneijder and Jacob Mulenga wrapped up the routine win for Utrecht, while RKC Waalwijk and NEC Nijmegen joined them on the winners list as they both won 2-1.
Despite Anthony Lurling’s late goal, Waalwijk held on for their second win on the trot, while strikes inside the first eight minutes from Lasse Schone and Nick van der Velden were enough to see NEC topple Heracles.
