VVV Venlo registered their first victory of the Eredivisie season in emphatic fashion on Saturday, thrashing RKC Waalwijk 4-1.
Hosts VVV had lost five times in succession coming into the match at Seacon Stadion De Koel.
They led 2-0 by the half-time break courtesy of goals from Japanese defender Maya Yoshida and forward Yannick Wildschut.
Visitors RKC got one back through Robert Braber in the 65th minute, but Nigerian striker Uche Nwofor struck to restore the two-goal cushion seven minutes later.
And midfielder Bryan Linssen capped off the scoring, claiming VVV’s fourth goal with 12 minutes remaining.
The much-needed victory sees second-bottom VVV close to within one point of NEC, who went down 1-0 away to ADO Den Haag.
Centre-forward John Verhoek scored the winner for ADO in the 25th minute at Kyocera Stadion.
Heracles continued their march up the table with a third victory in succession, beating Excelsior 2-0 away from home.
Samuel Scheimann put Heracles ahead from the penalty spot five minutes before half-time, and Willy Overtoom made sure of the win with a second goal in the 77th minute.
Heracles are now seventh, level on points with six-placed Ajax and six back from leaders AZ Alkmaar.
Finally, Heerenveen ended a frustrating run of three consecutive league draws with a 4-1 win away to Utrecht.
Defender Sven Kums put the visitors in front after 18 minutes at Stadion Galgenwaard, with Bas Dost and Filip Duricic both finding the net after the break to make it 3-0.
Rodney Sneijder got a goal back for Utrecht in the 81st minute, but Heerenveen responded immediately, with Oussama Assaidi notching a fourth 60 seconds later.
