Russian newspaper Izvestia is reporting that Zenit are readying bid for Sporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier.

New boss Andre Villas-Boas is not entirely happy with his defensive options and is prepared to address the issue in the upcoming transfer window.

According to Izvestia, the Portuguese manager is keeping close tabs on Sporting Lisbon stopper Eric Dier.

Villas-Boas has been monitoring the youngster since his time at White Hart Lane and he is confident Dier can develop into a high-quality player.

After impressing in his first senior season, the 20-year-old has only featured in 12 league fixtures this term and he might be ready to consider a move away from the club.

Eric Dier has a contract until June 2016 at Estadio Jose Alvalade and is valued at €4.5 million at the moment. The youngster is part of England Under-21 squad and has so far featured in three European Championship qualifiers.
