Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed England international David Beckham knocked back his offer to join the club.
The former England manager said that he enquired about bringing the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder to his side, but was told that the 35-year-old was not interested.
“If you talk about Beckham, of course I should take Beckham but I don’t think he will go anywhere. I spoke to his agent to see if there was a small chance, but he said it was not possible,” Eriksson told Sky Sports.
Eriksson remains focused on signing a big name player in the January transfer window, following the lead of fellow Championship side Cardiff City who lured Craig Bellamy in the close season.
“The owners want a big signing. It is interesting the players that have been mentioned. I made phone calls to more or less all of them,” he said.
“Most of them, they don’t really want to come to our league. If we get to the Premier League it will be much easier to get these players. But we are trying and the owners are happy to back me.”
According to reports, Eriksson was also unsuccessful with attempts to lure Robbie Keane and Roque Santa Cruz to the club.
