Christian Eriksen has been mentioned many times this summer in the context of his possible move to Juventus or Real Madrid. However, AS now reports that the Danish attacking midfielder is willing to stick out at the club until the end of his contract next summer.
The decision would mean that after the completion of his contract the 27-year old would be a free agent, something he is prepared to do in order to ‘get back’ at Tottenham Hotspur for not letting him go earlier. AS claims that Eriksen is “extremely hurt” by the fact that the club did not let him try his fortune at another European club. Spurs were willing to improve their offer in order to persuade Eriksen to stay and insist they are not to blame for how things turned out for Eriksen, but rather that the move did not take place because nobody had made a formal offer for the player.
It is possible that Eriksen’s determination to stay with Spurs and not renew his contract for the next season is the player’s last-minute ditch to get the club to start negotiations in order to get something for him after all.
