Spanish side Espanyol have denied their interest in former England international Emile Heskey.
The veteran striker has been a free agent since he was released from Aston Villa in June and as such he is allowed to sign for a new club even if the transfer window has closed.
Heskey was recently paired with La Liga side Espanyol, but the Spaniards have moved to deny their interest in the striker.
“I know about the rumours in the papers but we are not interested in Heskey or any other footballer,” Espanyol sporting director Ramon Planes explained to Sport.
“The squad is closed and the coach has not demanded any more players. Espanyol have a mix of experience and youth this season and that is sufficient to obtain our objectives.”
The 34-year-old has spent his entire playing career in England and now has 18 Premier League seasons behind him.
In total, Heskey has scored 111 goals in 507 Premier League appearances, playing for five different clubs.
The striker was released from his contract at Aston Villa after netting just once in 28 Premier League matches last term.
