Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is closing in on a free transfer to Australian side Melbourne Victory, according to the Express.
The thirty-three year old was back with the Blues this summer in order to maintain his fitness, and featured for them in a 2-1 friendly victory over Brentford.
Most recently the Ghana international was with Greek side Panathanikos, where he made fifteen appearances scoring one goal.
Prior to his move to Greece he spend eighteen months with AC Milan while he also had a loan spell with Real Madrid during his time with Chelsea.
In total he made over two hundred and fifty appearances for the Blues, scoring twenty-five goals and with them won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League.
He has been capped fifty-eight times for his country, scoring nine goals and was part of the squad that attended the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany and also the tournament in Brazil eight years later.
