(GSM) – Estudiantes and Independiente moved into the top two spots in the Argentine Clausura with victories after Godoy Cruz fell to River Plate.
Estudiantes sit above Independiente on goal difference after holding on to beat Tigre, 2-1 on the road.
Leandro Desábato put the visitors in front after eight minutes, and José Sosa made it 2-0 to Estudiantes 20 minutes later.
Despite Marcos Rojo’s own goal five minutes before half-time, Tigre could not make the comeback.
Independiente sit just behind on goal difference after their 3-1 victory away to Banfield.
Néstor Silvera put Independiente in front in the 21st minute, but Rubén Ramírez equalized for fifth-placed Banfield on 34 minutes.
That parity lasted just two minutes as Leandro Gracián’s goal restored the lead for Independiente at 2-1.
They held on to that lead until the end, and Leonel Núñez bagged a third deep into stoppage time.
Those two sides went top at the expense of Godoy Cruz, who fell 2-1 at the Monumental against River Plate.
Godoy Cruz entered the day in first place and took the lead in the 32nd minute as Federico Higuaín’s shot beat River goalkeeper Mario Vega.
But Ariel Ortega equalized for struggling River in the 68th minute, and Paulo Ferrari gave them the lead just two minutes later to deny the visitors.
