L’Equipe reports that Olympique Marseille have sounded an interest in Barcelona hitman Samuel Eto’o.
Barca is keen to off-load the 27 year old Cameroonian international and alerted clubs in England and Italy of his availability, as well as selected teams in other European leagues.
Among those were a crop of top French sides and Marseille believe that they could have the pulling to attract Eto’o to the Stade Vélodrome.
Marseille know that they would have a task to persuade him to join them, but they are in the Champions League qualifiers, like Barcelona, and hope this could be a bargaining tool.
One stumbling block, however, could be the asking price of around €40m which is a figure that is out of reach of nearly every French top flight side. Then there is the matter of Eto’o’s €4m-per-year basic wage demands, a sum that no Ligue 1 club has ever agreed to pay a player, but Marseille are reportedly working on a package.
