Mazembe striker Mulota Kabangu said his side will silence Inter Milan’s Samuel Eto’o in the Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
The Congolese club has surprised many by reaching the final and Kabangu believes his club can spring even more, starting by silencing the Cameroonian goal ace Eto’o.
“I played against Eto’o before when Cameroon and DR Congo met in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers and he did nothing in that game,” Kabangu told UAE newspaper Al-Bayan.
“We managed to contain him and he couldn’t score. We will do that again in the final.”
Kabangu said containing Eto’o would help the African side’s chances of beating the European champions.
“Football is not all about the calibre of certain stars or clubs, it’s an on-pitch competition,” Kabangu said on Friday.
“We believe that nothing is impossible in football, that’s why we are confident we would be able to win tomorrow.”
“The players’ morale is sky high and we are all determined to feature in that once-in-a-lifetime match.”
Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso said his side will be wary of Mazembe.
“We must not underestimate our opponents, giving Mazembe due credit for all they have achieved,” Cambiasso said.
“Let’s not forget they also beat Mexicans Pachuca, so two of the sides who could’ve been favourites to win the tournament.”
“Mazembe will be very motivated, but that can only be a danger if we don’t approach this game the same way. If Inter have the right mentality, then we won’t run risks.”
The final kicks off at 1700GMT at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, following the third-place playoff between Brazil’s Internacional and South Korea’s Seongnam Ilhwa.
