The group stages of the 2020 European Championship Qualifiers ended Tuesday this week, and there are 20 teams that have already booked their place in Europe’s biggest continental tournament for the following year.

Following Wales’ 2-0 win over Hungary, it is now official that only four berths are up for grabs. These will be decided on four mini-playoff tournaments in March next year.

List of teams that already clinched a spot in the 2020 European Championships

The list of qualified teams goes as follows: Italy, England, Belgium, Spain, Ukraine, France, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, Poland, Russia, Portugal, Turkey, Denmark, Holland, Austria, Sweden, Czech Republic, Finland and Wales. A few teams stood out from the pack based on their performances, though.

Belgium (Group I) were the #1 team in the world according to the FIFA Rankings entering the Qualifiers, and certainly responded to that label by winning their 10 matches and averaging 4.0 goals scored and 0.3 conceded per game. The Red Devils were one of two teams that ended the qualifying run with a perfect record. The other team to accomplish that feat were Italy in Group J.

Spain (W8, D2 in Group F) and Ukraine (W6, D2 in Group B) were the other two teams to end the Qualifiers undefeated. England (Group A), Germany (Group C), Switzerland (Group D), Croatia (Group E), Poland (Group G) and France (Group H) were the other group-winning countries.

Which teams will play in the 2020 European Championship Play-Offs?

The play-off round will feature four “mini tournaments” between four teams each. The pairings will settle after a draw held Friday in Nyon, Switzerland. But this is what we already know. Only two ties are 100% confirmed:

Playoff B: Bosnia Herzegovina vs Northern Ireland and Slovakia vs Ireland

Playoff D: Georgia vs Belarus and North Macedonia vs Kosovo

Meanwhile, the other two will be confirmed following Friday’s draw. These are:

Playoff A: Iceland and three teams from the following four: Bulgaria, Israel, Hungary and Romania.

Playoff C: Norway vs Serbia and Scotland against the remaining team not selected for Playoff A

These play-off matches will happen in March 26, 2020 (semifinals) and March 31, 2020 (finals). The winning team from each play-off round will reach the 2020 European Championships.
