  • Barcelona kept intact their six point lead over closest rivals Real Madrid when Lionel Messi’s twentieth league goal of a fabulous season was enough to beat struggling Getafe.

Real Madrid also earned a 1-0 win as Marcelo slotted home to get three points at even more struggling Recreativo Huelva.

Sevilla stay third despite going down to fourth placed Valencia 3-1 at the Mestalla. The visitors had taken the lead through Julien Escude but Valencia hit back after Adriano was sent-off for Sevilla.

Goals from David Villa, Juan Mata and substitute Pablo Hernandez made Sevilla pay for their ill-discipline.

Valencia are now just five points behind Sevilla with seven games to play. They have opened up a three point lead over Villarreal and Atletico Madrid.

  • The top two could not be separated as Inter failed to overcome 10-man Juventus in Turin.

Mario Balotelli gave Jose Mourinho’s side the lead and they looked to have all three points in the bag when Juve midfielder Tiago was sent-off with 15 minutes to play but Zdenek Grygera managed to grab an equaliser deep into stoppage-time.

The draw was not enough for Juventus who find themselves ten points behind Mourinho’s Champions elect with just six games to play.

A Filippo Inzaghi hat-trick helped AC Milan go into second place ahead of Juve on goal difference as they beat Torino 5-1 at the San Siro. Kaka and Ambrosini completed the scoring.

  • Wolfsburg remain in pole position after a 2-1 home win over Bayer Leverkusen thanks to a brace from in-form striker Grafite.

Bayern Munich remain three points behind after a Luca Toni strike was enough to beat struggling Arminia Biefield in a less than impressive performance.

Hamburg are certainly not out of the race for the title after going level on points with Bayern following their 2-1 home win over Hannover with Mladen Petric scoring both goals.

Hertha Berlin are also still in with a chance after they came from behind to defeat Werder Bremen 2-1 to keep them five points off top spot. Simunic and Rafael scored the goals.

  • Ligue 1
  • Another win for Marseille thanks to goals from Renato Civelli and Brandao kept them top with a 2-1 win at Lorient.

Bordeaux are just two points behind after they beat champions Lyon 1-0 at home with Alou Diarra tapping home shortly before half-time.

The result leaves Lyon four points behind Marseille in third while PSG are still in the race after they beat Le Havre 3-0 at Parc des Princes to remain five points off the pace. They had Giuly, Rothen and Hoarau to thank for their win.

  • Eredivisie
  • AZ Alkmaar were crowned champions for the first time since 1981 despite a rare defeat, losing 2-1 at home to Vitesse. El Hamdaoui had put them ahead but it wasn’t enough to stop them slipping to only their third defeat all season.

Second place FC Twente went down 1-0 to a Roy Makaay goal at Feyenoord whilst Ajax, in third place, had a remarkable and humiliating 6-2 defeat at PSV. There were six different players on the scoresheet for the home side as the fans were shown just what this team could have produced.

  • SPL
  • Celtic remain one point clear at the top after they beat Aberdeen 2-0 at home on Saturday. Goals either side of half-time from Vennegoor of Hesselink and McDonald were enough for a comfortable win.

Rangers made sure they stayed hot on the heels of the leaders when they scraped past Hibernian away 3-2 with Steven Whittaker, Andrius Velicka and Maurice Edu scoring the goals.

  • Portugal
  • Porto bounced back from European Champions League defeat to Manchester United in style as they hammered Academica de Coimbra 3-0 away to remain at the top in Portugal. Rolando, Lopez and Gonzalez kept them four points clear of second placed Sporting who won 2-1 away at Guimaraes.

  • Turkey
  • Sivasspor stay top in Turkey despite drawing 0-0 at Konyaspor. They stay one point ahead of Besiktas who also drew 0-0 with Bursaspor.

  • Greece
  • Olympiakos are eight points clear at the top in Greece despite a rare 1-0 loss at home to AE Larissa. They remain in total control at the top as PAOK were the only team in the top four to pick up three points.

  • Belgium
  • Anderlecht and Standard Liege remain locked together at the top after both teams picked up decent away wins.

Anderlecht won 1-0 at seventh placed Westerlo whilst Standard Liege hammered mid-table Excelsior Mouscron 3-0.
