Evander completes Cincinnati move from Portland in MLS-record trade

FC Cincinnati have signed All-Star Brazilian midfielder Evander from the Portland Timbers in exchange for $12 million, a record fee for a transfer between MLS teams.

Portland also retained a future sell-on and trade percentage in Evander, who has agreed a Designated Player contract with Cincinnati until 2027 with an option for 2028.

Evander’s arrival at the TQL Stadium will help bolster Pat Noonan’s attacking options for the 2025 MLS season, having lost Luciano Acosta to FC Dallas last week.

In the MLS last year, including the playoffs, only Acosta (31), Lionel Messi (32) and Gabriel Pec (34) registered more goal involvements than Evander (30).

Indeed, only three players created more chances in the MLS than Evander (91), with the Brazilian ending his time in Portland with 26 goals in 61 appearances in all competitions.

The Timbers have since moved quickly to fill Evander’s roster spot, acquiring Portuguese midfielder David Da Costa from Ligue 1 side Lens for a reported $6m fee.

“I’m really happy, and I’m looking forward to the start of the season,” said Evander.

“When I received the video of the stadium and training facility, and all the fans as well, I just got even more excited to be part of the team, to be part of the club.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up with the fans. I’m here to help. I’m here to do my best for the club and hopefully win some trophies.”

Cincinnati are entering their fourth season under head coach Noonan and currently preparing for a Concacaf Champions Cup round one series against Honduran side FC Motagua.

Their MLS season-opener sees Cincinnati welcome the New York Red Bulls to TQL Stadium on February 23.
