Manchester United pair Jonny Evans and Danny Welbeck have both been ruled out of this weekend’s match against Swansea City with injury.
Northern Irish defender Evans had picked up a knock that ruled him out of Monday’s Manchester derby, while Welbeck had to leave the Etihad Stadium on crutches after being tackled clumsily by Nigel De Jong during the game.
Despite some reports suggesting that Welbeck would be out of contention for Euro 2012, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insisted that this would not be the case.
He told United’s official website: “He will be ready for Sunderland (United’s final game of the season).”
Ferguson also noted that Evans was “improving a bit,” but would not be ready to face Brendan Rodgers’ side at the weekend.
Ferguson may be anticipating a tough game at Old Trafford, after praising Swansea’s determination to play stylish football, and the results it has garnered.
“The way Swansea have played this season has been admirable,” he said.
“I went to see them last weekend. They want to play football. The manager has stuck by his principles and they’ve had a fantastic season.”
