The Europa League returns this Thursday as Europe’s secondary-competition moves into the third match-week. Gaps are starting to appear in each group now as the top and bottom teams are separated. One group that remains very tight is Group E, where Everton take on Lyon this evening.

It has been anything but the ideal start for Everton domestically and abroad this season. They languish in the bottom half of the Premier League table despite heavy investment in the squad over the summer, while they are currently bottom of their Europa League group. One point from two games is a poor return for the Toffees who will have fancied themselves to make it out of the group with relative ease. This is a must-win game for Ronald Koeman as pressure is beginning to reach unbearable levels.

Lyon have also been relatively poor in their current Europan campaign. Two draws from two games sees them in second in the group, two points short of topside Atalanta. While they have not been in the best of scoring form this season hitting the back of the net twice, they have been good at the back, only conceding two goals. A win this evening would see them put four points between themselves and Everton and it would solidify their attempt to get out of the group.
